MaPrimeRénov': how it works and how to apply

A clear, up-to-date answer: the principle, the conditions, the application step by step, and the timing mistake that costs people the grant.

MaPrimeRénov' is the French State grant, paid by the Anah agency, to fund energy renovation works in your home (heating, insulation, ventilation, full retrofit). The amount depends on your income, region and the work done: the lower your income, the higher the grant.

It is for owners (occupiers or landlords) of a home over 15 years old used as a main residence. It stacks with CEE bonuses (energy savings certificates) and the zero-rate eco-loan, which together can cover a large share of the bill.

Method

Apply for MaPrimeRénov' in 5 steps

Create your account on the official site

Applications are made only online on maprimerenov.gouv.fr. Create your account with FranceConnect and your latest tax notice: your income sets your bracket (blue, yellow, purple, pink).

Get a quote from an RGE-certified installer

The professional must be RGE-certified for the works to qualify. Ask for a detailed quote: it is the core document of your file.

File your application BEFORE signing the quote

This is where many lose the grant: you must file and wait for the Anah's approval before starting works. Signing or paying too early can make the file ineligible.

Carry out the works once approved

After approval, the installer does the works. Keep the invoice, it is required for payment.

Send the invoice and receive payment

Upload the invoice to your account. After checks, the grant is paid to your bank account, usually within a few weeks. You only advance the remaining cost.

Who qualifies?

Be the owner of a home over 15 years old (main residence, occupied at least 8 months a year).

Have the works done by an RGE-certified company.

Choose an eligible action: heat pump, biomass boiler, wall/attic/floor insulation, ventilation, or a full retrofit guided by Mon Accompagnateur Rénov'.

The exact amount depends on your income bracket and the action. Estimate it with our calculator before you start.

How much and how to combine it?

Depending on the action and your income, the grant ranges from a few hundred to several thousand euros. For an air/water heat pump, a modest-income household can receive a substantial grant, topped up by the CEE bonus.

The smart move: combine MaPrimeRénov' + CEE bonus + eco-loan. The CEE is paid by energy suppliers, the eco-loan funds the remaining cost interest-free. Together they sharply cut your cash effort.
