The public grants observatory

How many schemes actually exist, how many local authorities pay them, how many windows close this month. These figures are counted in our database, not estimated, and republished daily. Free to reuse, with attribution.

The share of authorities paying a grant will be published once 200 have been surveyed. We are at 85, with 115 to go. Below that threshold the figure would measure our survey order, not reality.

How these figures are produced

National and regional schemes come from open public databases, refreshed nightly. Local grants are read directly from the official websites of communes and metropolitan bodies, whose addresses the public administration directory publishes: we read their pages, copy the titles and amounts as written, and keep both the source link and the reading date. Nothing is rephrased, so nothing is invented. About sixty authorities are surveyed each night; a full pass over the 7,738 listed takes around four months, then starts again.

What these figures do not say: a recorded grant is not an obtained grant, and an amount published by an authority commits only that authority. We count what is published, not what is paid.

These figures are free to reuse, press included, provided Subventa and the survey date are cited. For a figure on a specific area or a time series, write to us.
